Kalanchoe tomentosa

Kalanchoe tomentosa, also known as panda plant, pussy ears or chocolate soldier, is a succulent plant in the genus Kalanchoe.  A native of Madagascar, it is a fairly popular houseplant on account of its small size, ease of care, and dark-red rimmed foliage.  This plant enjoys warmer tropical climates, and is best kept indoors in cold regions.

The Panda Plant is a unique succulent that is covered with fine hairs that mimics fuzzy fur.  This unusual succulent is considered 'tender,' meaning it must be indoors during the winter months if zoned in colder regions.  For optimal growth, keep this plant in the temperature range 60°F (15° C) to 75° F (23° C).   The Panda Plant is robust and grows from branching stems that turn woody with age.

Like most succulent and desert plants, the Panda Plant is susceptible to rot, and requires periods to dry out between waterings.  The panda plant can be propagated by cutting in soil. Learn more at the Plant Story community.
