Asparagus densiflorus

Asparagus densiflorus, also known as African asparagus, is widely grown in parks as a beautiful landscape. Clustered like a pine tree, its green leaf is much elegant and suitable for ornamental. You can display it in sitting room, windowsill, or use it as a part of artistic flower arrangement. 
African asparagus is suitable to grow in warm and humid environment. The plant is not resistant to strong sunlight and high temperature. The ideal growth condition is around 20-30℃, and temperature for overwintering may not below 3℃. 
When weather exceeds 35℃, the growth of plant will be suspended, and its leaf-like stem will also turn yellow. Measures such as building a shade and spraying some water should be taken.
When growing African asparagus, remember to avoid drought and too much water. Loose, fertile and good drainage sandy loam will be good for growth.
October to December is the harvest time for fruit. As the seed has a rather short life, you can sow it right after collecting berries from the plant. It is recommended to soak seed in water for one day to help seed sprouting from the seed coat.
You may store the seed in wet sand in 10℃, and wait for the white embryo root to grow out. Then you can sow the seed and cover some soil for about 1-1.5 cm thick. The seed can germinate quickly in this way.
The seedlings can be transplanted when they are about 5 cm high. From March to April, you can cut the weak part of the joint root to division propagation. Each part should have at least 2 buds.
New plants on the pot need sufficient water to stable the roots. After that, you can water less to keep the basin soil moisture. In the growing season, fertilizer solution should be applied once a month, mainly with nitrogen and potassium. 
During autumn, it is necessary to apply a topdressing of available phosphorus and potassium fertilizer to increase the cold resistance. Plants stop growing in winter, so it is no need for topdressing at that time.
